Lent is a time for spiritual discipline, denying ourselves so we know what to value about how God made us. As well as the usual times for prayer, there are the following services for us to appreciate. Do support them and reap spiritual rewards. You do not need to book a place and all Masses are offered in a COVID safe way.
Ash Wednesday, 2nd March The first day of Lent when we are to be at Mass, during which we have ash scattered on our foreheads to remind ourselves that one day we will die and return to the dust of the earth. It’s a powerful beginning of Lent. There will be Masses at 9.30am and 7.30pm at St Mary’s and at 5pm at the Good Shepherd.
Stations of the Cross will be at St Mary’s on Wednesdays from 9th March at 4pm. During this beautiful service we spend time pondering the 14 pictures in Church of the last moments before the Lord’s life.
We’re all encouraged to make a Confession of sin during Lent and you can do this by speaking to one of the priests and arranging a time.
Each week we will have a Study Study Session on the penitential psalms, which particularly focus on our awareness of our failings and God’s mercy. These happen every Sunday at 11.10am at St Mary’s and are repeated every Tuesday after the 12.15pm Mass at the Good Shepherd. The classes begin on Sunday 6th March.
