Jesus is heralded as the light for the nations in Luke 2. We celebrate the moment those words were spoken by Simeon at Candlemass each year. Mass begins with everyone holding candles, provided by the Church, which are then blessed and Mass continues as normal. It was intergenerational affair two thousand years ago: Jesus was forty days old when He was presented in the Temple whereas Anna and Simeon were getting on in years. Similarly, on Sunday young and old are welcome (There’s Sunday School for young people aged 5 – 16 during the Mass!).
It will be especially good to welcome a guest preacher, Fr James White, who was our pastoral assistant six years ago. He’s now been ordained deacon and is serving at St Martin’s Ruislip.
Do come along to celebrate this wonderful feast.
